The origins of the Cane Corso date far back to the ancestral traditions of the southern Italian countryside, in particular Puglia. Long forgotten, the breed has now been revived by some praiseworthy breeders who sought out the most typical specimens that remained with love and patience, and rebuilt precious genetic material resulting from centuries of selection.
They are strong, hardy, highly resistant dogs which combine power with harmony of forms and considerable agility.
In other molossers, certain physical features may be taken to extremes; in the Cane Corso, everything is in the right proportions.
After risking extinction, today the breed is safe and on the increase, abroad as well as in Italy. They are in demand as guard dogs and excellent defenders of property, but you have to get to know and understand them in order to appreciate them, and they must be educated and trained in the best possible way.
